Cavalry service. --Lieut. Lewis J. Hawley, recruiting officer of Wise's Legion, is at present raising a cavalry company in this city. He is an experienced officer, and to persons desirons of serving their country, the opportunity presents more than ordinary inducements.
Wise mounted Guard. --The members of this company have been for some time encamped at Howard's Grove, preparatory to entering the service for the war. An election for officers was held yesterday, with the following result: Captain, Lewis J. Hawley; 1st Lt., J. L. Capston; 2d Lt., Wm. Wayne, Jr., Junior 2d Lt., Stephen B. Hawley; Orderly Sergeant, Geo. R. Blake. Capt. Hawley was formerly 1st Lieutenant of Caskie's Rangers, and is a brave and intrepid solder. His company will do good service.

Hawley, valued at $250 It appears that McGinness came in the city at an early hour yesterday, with Dorsett's horse, which he sold for $165 to Mr. Thomas Duke, at romised to bring another one in the evening. In the meantime Dorsett appeared, identified claimed, and received his horse. When the thief came sack he brought Capt. Hawley's horse, which he also offered for sale, when he was seized by Mr. Duke and held till officer Seal arrived. McGinness disclaimed having ever belonged to the WCapt. Proceedings in the Courts. Mayor's Court Monday, Nov. 25th --John McGinness alias Lee alias Davenport, was examined and sentenced to a called Court of Hustings, next Monday, for stealing two horses--one from J. S. Dorsett, valued at $400, and one from Lewis J. Hawley, valued at $250. Elizabeth Smith, free negro, from Petersburg, arrested for being in the city without a register, was examined and acquitted. Dick, slave of S. P. Hawes & Son, was ordered twenty lashes for having in his possession a bar of iron for which he could not satisfactorily account. John Orrell, a recent graduate from the Penitentiary, having been found concealed in a chamber in the house of Mrs. Mary Allen, was remanded for indictment for effecting the entry with intent to commit a larceny.
