Sir F. B. Head's letter to the London Times, suggesting a cheap defence for Canada, contains the following paragraph: Let England proclaim that any unjustifiable invasion of Canadian territory by the army of the adjoining republic shall in the first instance be resented in the following manner: --Thus, if the army of the Government of the Northern States fire Toronto and Hamilton, let England, instead of troubling herself to extinguish those distant flames, Bombard and burn Boston and New York. If Canadian vessels are attacked on fresh water, let the injury be promptly avenged by the British navy throughout the wide rude salt aqueous surface of the globe.
