Don't want to fight.
--A Northern dispatch from Helena, as late as the 14th ult., announces that one negro regiment at that point is nearly full, and that it is to be commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Wood, formerly of the 6th Missouri cavalry.
It also states that the negroes are not so eager to enlist as was anticipated.
Many of them are suddenly seized with rheumatism, ague, etc., and it is found necessary to impress them.-- Also, that attempts have been made to force free negroes who are in the employ of certain parties, and whose homes are in Northern cities, into the ranks.
Their employers have in some instances appealed to Gen. Prentine for protection, which has been promptly rendered, and the recruiting officers have been severely injured.
