Attempting to cross the lines. --The following parties, belonging to local defence companies of this city, some of whom are detailed work men at the Tredegar Iron Works, were arrested yesterday while attempting to go to the enemy; T. Evans and Thomas Jones, members of Major Wm. E. Tanner's battery; John Paul, co A, 6th Va battalion; F. A. Howell, co B, 1st Va. battalion; and Geo. Smith, Johnson's battery. White our State forces were in the neighborhood of Bottoms's Bridge, these men obtained permission to go a short distance from camp; but as soon as they got out of sight, they changed their direction and struck a bee line for the Yankee camp on this side of the river, a few miles below. Meeting with some of our cavalry, however, a short distance after they started, they were compelled to take to the woods, where they skulked about till yesterday, when they again fell in with our scouts, about three miles from their old camping ground, and were captured.
