Mayor's Court, yesterday. --Stephen, slave of Sarah Mills, was sent on to the Hustings Court for stealing a child's hat, some jewelry, &c., valued at five hundred dollars, from Elizabeth Hubbard, residing on Cary street. Stephen was carrying four barrels of flour and the things named in his wagon from the Danville depot to the house of the prosecutor. Cornelius, slave of William Brooks, charged with driving his team through the streets at a faster rate then the ordinance permits, was ordered to be whipped. A fine of five dollars was imposed upon Joseph Cance for obstructing Broad street by permitting his hack to stay out all night. Mr. Cance protested against being made to suffer for, as he thought, so small a matter, when hundreds of cords of wood were thrown from the cars into the street and suffered to remain there for days and nights together. His Honor then announced the adjournment of his court till this morning at nine o'clock.
