the twelfth of July last occurred the death of Thomas H. Norton. For two years he had been in ill health and the end came peacefully at his farm in Barnet, Vt., where he had spent much of his life after a severe accident he sustained about thirty years ago, and where he was buried. He was born in Medford on January 7, 1854, the son of John H. and Martha Huffmaster Norton, on the estate which had been his grandfather's, at the corner of High and Allston streets. His grandfather, Thomas Huffmaster, a Hessian soldier who had been taken prisoner and settled here after the war, met with a tragic end after the great tornado of August 23, 1851. The roof of a house near by was blown over, crushing in the ell of his own, where he sat at the window. Mr. Norton grew up and followed his father's trade as a carpenter, assisting him in the construction of many buildings, continuing thus until his accident.
