During the past eighteen months there has been a discussion going on concerning the Government and city taxes. Recently Henry T. Hulbert was sent on a mission to Washington by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen, regarding the collection of taxes on confiscated Government property in Memphis. He visited Secretary Stanton, who told him, after taking a hasty impression of the matthat the people of Memphis, a city in rebellion, were entitled to no favor.
