Hustings Court.
--The following business was disposed of yesterday:
A petition was presented from James B. Payne, Joseph Brizzolari, Wm. C. Fear, Jno. Lyneman, Chas. Hunt and Lewis Antelotti, asking permission to sell, by retail, wine, ardent spirits, or a mixture thereof, they having paid the additional tax prescribed for this privilege.
After a short consultation the Court certified that they were persons of good character, and that the Court saw no objection to such permission being granted.
This means that the above named parties are granted permission by the Court to keep grog-shops, where liquor can be bought by the drink.
Samuel H. Bowman, charged with stealing eight ounces of morphine and seven ounces of quinine from the Medical Purveyor's Department was, the Court having heard the evidence, discharged.
This man had confessed the theft to the officer who arrested him, and subsequently to others.
