Garroted.
--Michael Hunt, a citizen, while returning home on Thursday night, about 11 o'clock, was set upon by two men, whose purpose it was to rob him; but before the rascals succeeded in their designs, policemen Rhodes and Morris, who happened to hear Mike's cries for help, ran to his assistance just in time to arrest the highwaymen as they were in the act of fleecing his pockets.
The names of the robbers are John Carroll and Cyrus McConway, both members of the Twenty-fourth Massachusetts Infantry, Company "C." They were assigned quarters at Major Claiborne's Old Market Inn.
