The universal sentiment of the troops is that they did not come here to aid and comfort the negroes; but, on the country, they would volunteer to put down any insurrection that might be brought about by the slaves. In addition to the garrison of Fort Severn, and the embankments on Horn Point, the troops have taken possession of Judge Hunter's farm, directly opposite the Navy Academy, where they intend to mount heavy guns on the bluff on the Northeast side of Severn River, commanding the city and harbor. Smith was examined for forging the name of Warwick & Barksdale and P. T. Moore & Co. to two checks for the payment of money, and sent on for final trial before Judge Lyons. He is now committed on six cases, the above included. Ordinary licenses were granted Thos. M. Granger, Peter Chick, Wm. E. Scherborn and James Kirk. [A large number of Ordinary keepers have not renewed their licenses, and the Court sits to-day for the purpose of renewing them.] The case of Elijah, slave of Stephen Hunter, for burglary, in breaking open Jas. H. Beagleston's store-house, and stealing $300 worth of groceries, was continued until the next term. E. Beathy was tried for misdemeanor. The jury failed to agree and were discharged. The defendant was then let off on payment of costs. Richard Morris, alias Richard Johnson, was tried for stealing a lot of chickens, of the value of $3. of Ro. E. Johnson, of King William county. He plead guilty, and was sentenced to one day's imprisonment.

The petition of Digges & Booth, to keep an ordinary, was heard and granted. The application of Henry Banks (a negro emancipated by Bacon Tait) to remain in the State, being heard before a full bench, was granted. Ordered that he be registered in the office of the Court. Elijah, slave of Stephen Hunter, was tried for breaking into James H. Beagleston's store, on Dock street, on the night of the 25th of March last, and stealing a large lot of groceries, convicted and sentenced to receive thirty-nine lashes, well laid on. Flemming Morgan was held for fighting with James Harwood in the street, and fined $5 and costs of Court; which he paid. John Blackwell was tried for permitting his slave to go at large, and declared not guilty whereupon the same was discharged from custody. David W. Hughes, indicted

Sale of Racing Nags. --At Nashville, Tenn, on Monday of last week, at the race course, Gen. W. W. Woodfolk sold to James Jackson, of Alabama, his celebrated race mare "Lula Horton," three years old, by imported "Albion," dam "Martha Dunn," by imported "Sovereign," for $4,000. He also sold to Judge Hunter, of Alabama, "Ellen Fall," by "Lexington," dam "Laura," by imported "Leviathan," two years old, for $2,500.
