Confederate Congress. Senate. Friday, February 24, 1865. Prayer by Rev. Mr. Jeter, of the Baptist Church. Mr. Semmes, from the Finance Committee, reported back with the recommendation that it ought not to pass, House bill to provide for the immediate payment of arrears due the army and navy. Placed on the calendar. Mr. Wigfall, from the Military Committee, reported back Senate bill to abolish the offices of post quartermasters, commissaries, &c., which had been sent back from the House with an amendment; and recommended that the Senate do not agree to the amendment, but ask a committee of conference. Mr. Hunter disapproved of a committee of conference on this bill. He was opposed to the bill, as, if passed, it would derange and interrupt the collection of the tax in kind. There might exist other valid objections to it, with which he was not acquainted. The bill was, for the time, informally passed over, and, On motion, by Mr. Hunter, the Senate
