Father was instrumental in having a singing school in Town Hall. He and Theophilus Johnson sailed up and down the river many a calm evening serenading with their cornets. Horrible murder. --Mrs. Theophilus Johnson and her little daughter, aged thirteen, residing near San Francisco, were found murdered in their dwelling on the 23d ult., and the house fired. Their skulls were cleft with an axe. A young man named Cook, employed by Mr. Johnson, was found under the chaparral near the house, with his head crushed to pieces. It is supposed that the murders were committed by an insane Kanaka Sandwich Islander.
