the neck, and Rollins coming up, thrust his hand into his pocket and took out a roll of notes amounting to five hundred firm, us to the same company with them, and knew them well.--A watchman testified that Garey had come to the watch house Tuesday night about eight o'clock, and complained that he had been robbed by a man named Stack and a sergeant of marines. The defence introduced witnesses to prove that Garey came down to the marine quarters about ten o'clock Tuesday night, very much intoxicated, and demanding to know who were absent from the quarters, and when he learned that sergeant Rollins and corporal Stack were, he wrote down their names, and said he would send them to the penitentiary. An important witness being absent, the Mayor continued the case till this morning. Mahala, a free negro from West Tennessee, was committed to jail for want of free papers. Washington Johnson, free negro, was ordered twenty-five lashes for stealing a hen from Mr. Carey Nicholas.
