Your kind letter of yesterday, in which you request me to declare myself a candidate for the Convention of Virginia, is before me.
Believing that it is the duty of every son of Virginia, in times like these, to accept any position which may be assigned him, I obey your call; and if it shall be the pleasure of the people of Louisa to elect me to the responsible position you indicate.
