Attempted Murder. --Two men called on the keeper of a liquor saloon in Manchester about 2 o'clock Saturday morning for the purpose of getting a drink. He refused pay for the article, but they insisting, he took the note offered and went to a chest to obtain change. While bending over it one of the men aimed a savage blow with a knife at his throat. He dipped his head in time to avert the stroke on the throat, but was dreadfully out on the back of his neck. The two fellows seized him, and a scuffle ensued, during which they were both bloodied up and one received a deep out in his hand between the fingers in trying to stab the shopkeeper. They finally ran off but were arrested yesterday by Constable Hancock, by the description furnished by the wounded man, whose came we could not learn. They proved to be two brothers named Jones, one of them a deserter from the 1st Virginia regiment. They were locked up in jail for examination.
