He studied law, and was admitted to the bar in December, 1890, and at once began the practice of his profession in Anderson, where he is one of the leading young attorneys. From November 21, 1891, to September, 1896, he held the office of city clerk and treasurer; and in 1898 was elected mayor. He is lieutenant-commander of Camp W. W. Humphreys, Sons of Confederate Veterans, of Anderson. He was married, December 17, 1895, to Miss Sarah Kennedy, of Due West, S. C. To these parents have been born two sons: William Kennedy, January 31, 1897, and John Kyle, November 14, 1898. Hon. John N. Hook, son of Dr. John H. J. and Harriet N. (Culclasure) Hook, was born in Orangeburg county, S. C., August 23, 1844. He received the best academic education afforded by the county in his day, having spent three years in the Fall Branch academy at Orangeburg under the tuition of T. J. P. Walsh, a graduate of the university of Dublin, Ireland
