Mr. Smith, of Virginia, offered the following resolution: Resolved, That this House, from respect to the memory of General Albert Sidney Johnston, and the officers and men who have fallen in the defense of their country in the hour of a great and glorious victory over our ruthless enemy, do now adjourn. This resolution was adopted without opposition, and the House adjourned. Tuesday, April 8, 1862. The Senate met at eleven o'clock. Prayer by the Rev. Mr. Kepler, of the Episcopal Church. Mr. Haynes, of Tennessee, moved that the resolution touching the victory near Corinth, and lamenting the death of Albert Sidney Johnston, be taken up, so that he could offer resolutions in lieu.
