Serious accident.
--An accident occurred near the corner of Main and 11th streets about ten o'clock on Saturday last, which came very near proving fatal.
A little boy, named Augustus King, whose parents reside on Fulton Hill, had been sent to the city to make some purchases, and while sitting on the back of a mule which he was riding, in conversation with some other boys, one of them picked up a switch and commenced tickling the animal, which caused him to kick up and throw his rider from his seat.
Young King's foot becoming entangled in the stirrup of the saddle, he was dragged some distance before assistance could be rendered, and when he was extricated from his perilous situation streams of blood were flowing from his head and face.
For some time life seemed extinct, but by prompt medical attendance he was soon restored to consciousness, and hopes are now entertained of his recovery.
