In 1830, at a time when the beautiful river Charles was still flowing with pure water, a committee was formed to consider and report on the expediency of erecting a bathing-house, in part, or wholly, at the expense of the Society, as may be thought desirable. The society was not in a hurry, even as late as 1830, and it was a year before the committee made its report, and then, on the strength of it, a vote was passed authorizing the treasurer to pay to George King one hundred dollars, whenever said King has erected a convenient bathing-house adjoining to or near the old Brighton Bridge, so-called.
