The invention patented some years ago by Mr. Charles Knight, of London, is a process whereby fac-similes of designs in four colors are produced on the same sheet before it leaves the press, by means of a revolving carriage or bed, upon which the blocks are secured. A mode of printing in four colors by means of turning the tympan with the sheet secured on it was somewhat less complicated than Mr. Knight's. The processes, however, necessitated the application of the four colored inks at every revolution and impression, and also involved considerable outlay for machinery. In Carpenter's process everything is carried on in as straightforward a manner as in ordinary black printing.
