Robbery and Arson. --Between 10 and 11 o'clock, Wednesday night, Mr. Theodore Law, residing on Broad street, near the African Church, becoming alarmed at the strong smell of smoke which pervaded his house, proceeded to ascertain the cause, and tracing it to his back chamber, in the second story, broke the door open, when he found the room densely filled with smoke and several articles of furniture on fire. With the assistance of some neighbors, the fire was soon put out, without much damage being done, after which an investigation of its origin was made, which resulted in proving that his buerau drawer had been first broken open and robbed, and then a fire built in it. In this drawer, Mr. Law had a large amount of money, jewelry, etc., consisting of $3,820 in Confederate States notes, about $100 in gold and silver, $1,012 in State bank notes, two gold watch chains, one gold watch key, gold and silver pens, silver pencils, a very fine gold watch, etc., all of which had been stole
