Lippitt, Francis James 1812-
Lawyer; born in Providence, R. I., July 19, 1812; graduated at Brown College in 1830; was a captain in the 1st New York Volunteers in the Mexican War; served in the Civil War, becoming colonel of the 2d California Infantry and brevet brigadier-general.
