Destructive fire. --About three o'clock yesterday morning the fine country mansion of Hon. James Lyons, situated on the Brook turnpike, a little over a mile from the city, was entirely consumed by fire, together with all his furniture, comprising a first class assortment, and a magnificent law library, that cannot be replaced in the Confederacy. The fire was the work of an incendiary, and had gained such headway before it was discovered that the occupants of the house, comprising Mr. and Mrs. Lyons, Miss. Mary Lyons, and Mrs. Robert E. Scott, came near suffocating. Every room in the house was filled with smoke before any one was aroused, and on awakening they had barely time to escape in their night dresses. The density of the smoke was so great that at a late hour yesterday afternoon we learn Mr. Lyons was unable to move about, and was suffering severely from its effects.
