ng while been a member of the City Council of Richmond; that when it was understood, on Sunday, the 2d of April, 1865, the city was to be evacuated by the Confederate Government, upon the approach of the United States forces, he was appointed by the Council of the city one of a committee to meet the enemy and surrender the city; that sometime after midnight on the morning of the 3d of April, 1865, he, in company with other members of the committee, and with Judge John A. Meredith and Judge William H. Lyons, who had been requested by the Council to act with the committee, and with Joseph Mayo, Esq., mayor of the city, went out to meet the enemy and surrender the city; that having taken a position and awaited their arrival, the party after awhile were met by the enemy, when a formal surrender of the city was made; that this was about two miles from the corporation line, on the Osborne turnpike, near the James river; that the Federal commander stated on the occasion to Mr. Mayo that he w
Judge Lyons' Court was in session yesterday and the Grand Jury found true bills against John Mescoe, for receiving four barrels of stolen sugar; and against Samuel H. Jefford, for stealing $30 from Mr. Covington. The trial of Samuel H. Jefford is fixed for today. In the case of Joseph Summers and William Mullen, for shooting each other, write have been issued to bring in the witnesses to testify.
Insolent. --Edward, slave to Selden &Miller, was convicted before the Mayor yesterday, of using insolent and provoking language to Judge Wm. H. Lyons, and sentenced to the lash.

Trial for counterfeiting. --The trial of Harvey Wash, for counterfeiting and passing gold coin of the United States, was commenced before Judge Wm. H. Lyons, of the Hustings Court, on yesterday. Testimony was taken till the hour of 3 o'clock, when the Court adjourned till 4. Judge Crump, and J. G. Williams, Esq., appeared for the accused; Mr. Tazewell for the Commonwealth.
The Case of Shooting in which Mr. J. H. Crenshaw is involved, will be called in the Hustings Court, Judge Lyons, this day week.
