which the following preamble and resolutions were adopted:— Whereas a large section of our country with arms in their hands are now in open rebellion, for the overthrow of our Government, and the destruction of our free institutions; therefore, Resolved, That we as true and loyal citizens are bound to respond to the call of our country, and rally to its support, by furnishing men and money in its defence. Resolved, That a committee of five be appointed consisting of Ezra Cary, Augustus Moody, N. W. Aldrich, Joseph Root, and D. B. Gillett, to be called the Executive Committee of the town, whose duty it shall be to receive and disburse all moneys given by individuals and assessed by the town for the purpose of raising men and furnishing them for the army, and providing for their families during their absence, and for any other purpose they may deem necessary in order to carry out the spirit of the preamble and resolutions.
