Moore, Jacob Bailey 1797-1853 Author; born in Andover, N. H., Oct. 31, 1797; learned the printer's trade in Concord, N. H.; married a sister of Isaac Hill, proprietor of the New Hampshire patriot; became his business partner; and afterwards established the New Hampshire statesman. He was a member of the State legislature in 1828. He and Mr. Farmer published, from. 1822 to 1824, three volumes of Historical collections of New Hampshire, of great value; and this was one of the first publicmes of Historical collections of New Hampshire, of great value; and this was one of the first publications in this country devoted to local history. He pursued journalism in New York (whither he went in 1839) for a while, when he was appointed to a place in the general post-office; and from 1845 to 1848 he was librarian of the New York Historical Society. Mr. Moore was the first postmaster in California, serving in San Francisco from 1848 to 1852. He died in Bellows Falls, Vt., Sept. 1, 1853.
