Forty-second fought in Webb's Brigade, Gibbon's Division, and its depleted ranks were again thinned by the desperate fighting encountered there. The gallant old regiment was mustered out July 13, 1864, its term of enlistment having expired, and such of its members as had reenlisted, together with the recruits, were transferred to the Eighty-second New York.
