Norton, Charles Stuart 1836-
Naval officer; born in Albany, N. Y., Aug. 10, 1836; graduated at the United States Naval Academy in 1855; and became rear-admiral and was retired in 1898.
During the Civil War he served on blockading duty off Charleston, with the Potomac flotilla, and at Hampton Roads; took part in numerous engagements, including the battle of Port Royal, S. C.; was acting rear-admiral and commandant of the South Atlantic Station in 1894-96; and commandant of the Washington navy-yard in 1896-98.
