Washington College has furnished our country with some prominent men; among many others are the following, viz: Our excellent Governor, John Letcher; Ex-Gov. McDowell; Hon. John J. Crittenden, of Ky., and Hon. G. W. Summers. K. O. Hanover. Old Church, Hanover Co., April 25, 1861. At an adjourned meeting of the citizens of the lower part of Hanover, held at this place to- day, for the purpose of forming a Home Guard, Rev. D. C. Harrison was elected Chair man, and Rev. J. B. T. Patterson Secretary. The proceedings of the meeting held at Hanover Court-House were read. A plan dividing Magisterial District No. 1 into four sections, presented by A. D. Wicker, was adopted. Wm. Sayre was unanimously elected Major of the Magisterial District, and his duties defined as follows: "To communicate with the Colonel of the county, and to issue such orders as may be necessary to the Captains of the sections."
