Potter, Elisha Reynolds 1811-1882 Jurist; born in South Kingston, R. I., June 20, 1811; graduated at Harvard College in 1830; commissioner of Rhode Island public schools in 1849-54; subsequently became a judge of the State Supreme Court. His publications include A brief account of emissions of paper money made by the colony of Rhode Island; Report on the condition and improvement of the public schools of Rhode Island; Early history of Narraganset, with an appendix of original documents; The Bible and prayer in public schools, etc. He died in South Kingston, R. I., April 10, 1882.
