Two paragraphs will put the reader in possession of all the truth in the letter: Colonel Caphart formed a line of battle and ordered that, when the band commenced playing, there be a general yell and charge. The band played, the men yelled, and there was a charge. This was successful. We drove the enemy, taking a few prisoners. This ended the day's proceedings. Fires were built and the men rested until the morning of the 26th. General Powell arrived late on the night previous, bringing nearly the whole of the remainder of the division with him. The following morning, the 26th, another attack was made upon the enemy's entrenched position, but it was found too strong to be taken by the force we had in the field and by cavalry alone. Two hundred dollars reward will be paid for the apprehension and delivery to me of my servant Bob, who ran off on the evening of Friday, the 21st ultimo, from the impressment officers. The said negro is about twenty six years of age, five feet eight or ten inches in height, rather sparely built, black, and with a downcast, humble countenance. No marks or scars recollected. He had on a drabber tan-colored woolen sack coat, of home manufacture. J. N. Powell, M. D. Bob may have taken it into his head to try and make his way to the Yankees, crossing the Chickahominy near the farm of William H. Timberlake, and passing through the county of Hanover. no 3--3t*Th&Sa
