City Council. --A called meeting of the Council was hold yesterday afternoon, at 4 o'clock. Present --Messrs. Saunders, Anderson, Griffin, Denton, Burr, Grattan, Scott, Crutch field, Hill, and Greanor. Absent--Messrs. Glazebrook, Talbott, Haskins, and Richardson. The President stated that the Council had been called at the request of the Watering Committee. Mr. Grattan made a motion that the Council proceed to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr. F. W. Roddey, and the motion being carried, Robert R. Howisof, Esq., was nominated, and unanimously elected a member from Madison Ward. Mr. Denton stated that the Council had been called to consider the propriety of constructing a new reservoir, and briefly stated that the committee had adopted the plan prepared by Mr. W. Resignation and appointment. --Dr. F. W. Roddey, Surgeon of Company F, of the 1st Regiment, having resigned his position, the members, at a late meeting, unanimously selected Dr. Peter Lyons in his stead. The latter having entirely recovered from a severe injury received several months since, is in a condition to do effectual service should occasion arise. Contributing members of Company "F" are informed that, to be exempt from militia fines for the year 1861, they must renew their certificates of membership before the Spring musters. We make this announcement at the request of Capt. Cary, who also requests us to state that certificates, properly signed, can be had upon application to any active member of his company. As this mode of getting rid of militia mustering is cheaper than paying the fines, and at the same time encourages our volunteers, paying our money here at home, instead of into the treasury of the State, to be disbursed amongst the militia at large, we beli
Sale of valuable property. --The suburban residence of Dr. F. W. Roddey, located on or near the Plank-road, on the western confines of the city, containing twenty acres, with improvements, was sold at public vendue by Goddin & Apperson, Auctioneers, on Monday evening, for $17,500, to William Byrne, Esq., of Baltimore.
