Northern News Items. J. Allen Lemmon. formerly of Washington, but now an employee in the C. S. Ordnance Department at Richmond, was captured near Drainesville, Va., by the Federal last week, and carried to Washington. Wm. N. Ross, a relative of John Ross, has arrived at Washington, with a communication from the latter to the President, asking that the Cherokees be recognized in all their treaty rights, and setting forth that what was done by the Nation, seemingly favoring the rebels, was under duress and from intimidation. Just before dying, Col. Miles, who commanded at Harper's Ferry, said to the Colonel of the 87th Ohio: "Colonel, there have been many imputations cast upon my loyalty; but if I have erred, my errors have been from the head, and not from the heart."
