Degradation. --A woman named Patsy Matthews, who has been before the Mayor repeatedly, was up again yesterday for threatening personal violence to Daniel Ryan and to burn his house. She was considerably under the influence of liquor, and exhibited a volubility of tongue while in Court such as only a woman can exhibit when excited. There were circumstances in her case that entitled her at least to some charitable consideration; but in the absence of any mode of compelling any one to provide for her support, the Mayor was obliged to send her to jail, from whence she will perhaps be transferred to the Poor-House. Hereunto might be affixed a moral treatise on the accountability of men who bring females to shame and degradation, and then turn them adrift upon the world; but we don't feel in the mood of writing it just now.
