Police Affairs. --The following arrests were effected by the police on Saturday: Patrick Ryan, for assaulting Jno. McMahon, and stealing from his person a silver watch valued at $45 Jno. McAually, for drunkenness and trespassing on John D. Smith. Thos. E. Kinney and Alfred Cardwell, for fighting on the Capital Square. The last named were let off at the cage.
Stealing a watch. --Patrick Ryan was examined yesterday before the Mayor for garroting a citizen named James McMahon, and dispossessing the latter of his silver time piece, valued at $25. The affair took place in Jefferson Ward. The proof, both of the attack and the abstraction of the watch, was so clear that His Honor found no difficulty in adjudging the defendant worthy of being sent on to the Hustings Court next Monday for a further examination on the charge of felony. The offender, we regret to say for the credit of that useful corps, was a member of the military guard of the Provost Marshall, usually considered to be employed for the express purpose of preserving order and preventing such crimes as the one in which he enacted the principal part.
