feet. Gough being unable to account for the remainder of the clothing, was remanded for examination before the Hustings Court. The next case was that of — Saunders, charged with an attempt to extort money, by threats of violence, from an Italian shopkeeper. Michael Raffo testified that he came into the shop and called for his pocketbook. After a few minutes he returned, exclaiming that he had left a pocket-book, containing $47, on the counter. Raffo denying all knowledge of it, Saunders drew a bowie knife and demanded the money or Raffo's life. Raffo then paid him $47, and had him arrested. Saunders was remanded for examination, and John W. GhSaunders was remanded for examination, and John W. Ghio, Michael Raffo, and Pito Balochi, recognized to appear as witnesses at the Hustings Court. J. W. Satterwhite, for allowing slaves to ride in his hack without permission of their owners. Mr. Satterwhite having hired the back to a slave who had a permit to ride, was dismissed with a present of a copy of the city ordinances,
