On being discovered they confessed they were officers in the rebel army, one a colonel, named Lawrence W. Orton, formerly W. Orton Williams. One claims to be a first cousin to Robert Lee, and is said to have been chief of artillery on Gen. Bragg's staff, and formerly to have been on Gen. Scott's staff of the 2d regular cavalry. Miscellaneous. A letter from Folly Island, S. C., says a reconnaissance in full revealed the fact that there are only 1,000 on the island. The cage. --Richard H. Jackson, charged with stealing and carrying away the pocketbook of Patrick Quinn, containing $63 in Confederate money, was committed to the cage yesterday. Wm. O'Brien also found lodgings at the same institution, charged with stealing a pistol from Wm. J. Scott, valued at $65--James King, free negro, charged with stealing a cow from John Stewart.

Pistol Scrape. --William O'Brien, charged with stealing a pistol from Wm. J. Scott, was before the Mayor last Saturday. O'Brien admitted having the pistol in his possession, and professed a willingness to give it up to the Mayor, alleging that the weapon belonged to the Government, and not to Scott. The pistol was turned over to the police for safe keeping, and the party accused discharged, there being nothing in the evidence to show that he designed appropriating it to his own use.
