Hon. C. C. Clay, of Ala., who has been suffering severely from asthma, is recovering, and his name will be presented to the Legislature of that State for election to the Confederate States Senate. Mr. R. B. Alexander, former proprietor of the Fredericksburg Recorder, has sold out his interest in that paper to Mr. James B. Sener, long and favorably known as the editor of that paper. Miss Maggic Mitchell closed an engagement at St. Louis, a few days since, and it is understood she goes from there to California. Gen. Houston's Illness.--The Galveston News reports Gen. Houston still very low.--His attack is of a congestive character. Hon. H. S. Foote, ex-Governor of Mississippi, is a candidate for Congress in the 5th Congressional District of Tennessee. Rev. Thos. Haskins, of Cleveland, Tenn., died at that place a few days ago. Cow hair and cotton is said to be a good substitute for wool.
