S. Foster; ante, 1.392. of Connecticut has followed with an elaborate speech vindicating the atrocity. The vote in favor of slave-hunting stood 24 to 17, including ten Rep fugitive slaves, though they had already voted for the Constitutional Amendment abolishing slavery! Such of these conscientious gentlemen as he could not convert, Mr. Sumner persuaded to absent themselves when the final vote was taken, and Messrs. Sherman and Foster were among these (Lib. 34: 118).
