t in so many great battles, he was wounded but twice, and then only slightly. In the first battle in which Orr's regiment participated, that of Gaines' Mill, it left 90 of its members dead upon the field, and Mr. Eskew and a fellow private, David Simmons, were the only two members of Company D that passed unharmed through the Seven Days fight, ending at Malvern Hill. When the war closed he was a corporal, having been promoted in 1863. Since the war Mr. Eskew has given his attention to farmiprospering in his occupation as a farmer. He maintains his Confederate associations as a valued member of D. Wyatt Aiken camp, U. C. V. On November 4, 1869, he was married to his cousin, Susan Ophelia Pinson, daughter of John H. and Florentine (Simmons) Pinson, and they have one son, James Lewis.
