Gen Grant moved from Culpeper Court House, crossing the Rapidan at Germanna and Ely's Fords, and taking the road to Bowling Green, in Caroline county, thus attempting to turn our right and get between Lee and Richmond.
Late y nor to himself.
The artillery took but little part on either side, on account of the woods and the nature of the ground.
Our loss is severe, including many valuable officers.
Among the killed are General Jennings, (Jenkins?) of S. C.; Stafford, of La.; Colonel Nance and Lieutenant Colonel Galliard, of S. C., and Col. J. Thompson Brown, of Richmond (commanding a battalion of artillery).
Gen. Benning, of Georgia, is wounded, but not severely.
