Stanton's Dispatches
It is a very adroit arrangement of the Lincoln Government to establish a telegraphic correspondence between Washington and New York--Secretary of War Stanton at the Washington end, and Collector Dix at the New York end — for the purpose of communicating th 0; nor could they keep it there.
Chase, aided by a telegraph from Stanton, which threw dust in the public eye, contrived to bring it down to 187¾.
So artfully contrived have been Stanton's messages to Dix, that the Northern public are now completely bamboozled — They have been ea what the Government expected of him !
