. --The young ladies of Shreveport, La., recently forwarded to Maj. Wm. R. Shivers (now in Virginia) the sum of $140, being the proceeds of a concert given by them for the benefit of the "Caddo Rifles." We copy a portion of the note accompanying the gift: "The sum may seem small beside that appropriated by the Police Jury; but, remember it comes as a tribute of woman's undying affection and patriotism — a token of heartfelt sympathy in the privations and dangers of the champions of her country's liberty — a pledge of her willingness to make any sacrifice rather than behold the triumph of her country's foes. Take it, then, in the spirit in which it is sent, and in the hour of battle may the thought that our hearts are linked to yours by the "ever-lengthening chain" of devotion to a common cause, nerve your arm to deal death and destruction to the base invaders of our soil. "Signed by Lucy Moore, Fanny Tally, M. L. Douglass, Nettie Parsons, Sallie Stevens, Carrie Lewis
