The last house in Waltham on the Main road was the Bemis Tavern, owned and occupied by Isaac Bemis as a tavern in 1798, and kept by him for a long time. John Ball is supposed to have occupied the stand previous to him, and a Mr. Stratton followed him. It is still standing, the only one of the ancient taverns left, but no longer a public house.
