Stringer, Samuel 1734-1817 Physician; born in Maryland in 1734; was appointed to the medical department of the Provincial army in 1755, and, at the close of the war married and settled in Albany, N. Y. In 1775 he was appointed director-general of the hospitals in the Northern Department, under General Schuyler, and accompanied the troops that invaded Canada. He was dismissed from the service by Congress, Jan. 9, 1777, against the remonstrances of General Schuyler. After the war he became famous as a practitioner. He died in Albany, N. Y., July 11, 1817.
