Fruits of Madness. Sir James Mackintosh, who had been one of the most sanguine friends of those popular movements in France which inaugurated the Revolution, and in whom even the great Burke had found an opponent worthy of his steel, was forced afterwards to confess that a revolution which had been begun to establish a Republic in France had ended in the annihilation of every Republic in Europe.
