Walker, Amasa 1799-1875 Political economist; born in Woodstock, Conn., May 4, 1799; educated in North Brookfield, Mass.; Professor of Political Economy at Oberlin College in 1842-49, and at Amherst College in 1861-66; held various political offices in Massachusetts in 1848-62, when he was elected to Congress. He wrote The nature and uses of money and mixed currency, and Science and wealth. He died in North Brookfield, Mass., Oct. 29, 1875. ount, $12,064.47. A great many articles were contributed by the ladies of Northbridge during the war for the comfort and convenience of the soldiers. North Brookfield Incorporated Feb. 26, 1812. Population in 1860, 2,760; in 1865, 2,514. Valuation in 1860, $1,183,803; in 1865, $1,104,648. The selectmen in 1861, 1862,ars men, and three hundred and twenty-five dollars for three-years men. There was no substantial change from this system during the remainder of the war. North Brookfield furnished two hundred and forty-seven men for the war, which was a surplus of twelve over and above all demands. Twelve were commissioned officers. The who was as follows: In 1861, $734.00; in 1862, $3,884.22; in 1863, $5,046.16; in 1864, $5,222,09; in 1865, $3,000.00. Total amount, $17,886.47.
