ifest from the fact that the membership of the church more than doubled during his connection with it, he died, sincerely lamented, May 26, 1853. During his long sickness the pulpit was supplied gratuitously by neighboring pastors, and after his death the society continued his salary for several months for the benefit of his wife and daughter, who survived him. His successor was the Rev. Jacob M. Manning. Jacob M. Manning. Rev. (afterwards Dr.) Jacob Merrill Manning, born in Greenwood, N. Y., Dec. 31, 1824, graduated from Amherst College, 1850, and from Andover Theological Seminary, 1853, and was ordained in Medford, Jan. 5, 1854. He was dismissed Feb. 17, 1857, to become the associate pastor, with the Rev. Dr. Blagden, of the Old South Church, Boston, where he continued till his death, Nov. 29, 1872. His was indeed a most noble, useful life, devoted to his sacred calling in that one church, but reaching out and touching many other lives by his voice and pen and in wh
