--Some of our lady friends will never forget their romantic visits to the saltpetre cave in Cass county.
They will be glad to learn that it has been converted from a common and poetical, to an uncommon and practical use. It is now made to furnish "villainous saltpetre" for the Confederate States.
The venerable cave was laid under contribution in a similar manner during the war of 1812, and the saltpetre was then hauled in wagons to Blount county. Tenn., to be manufactured into gunpowder.
It is now taken to Nashville.
An average of one hundred and twenty-five pounds a day are turned out, at twenty- five cents per pound.
The operations are carried on under the superintendence of our friend Mark Hardin, Esq., who owns the cave, and the same man who was employed in 1812 in managing the works.--Rome (Ga.) Southerner.

--A patriotic lady citizen of Nashville, a few days since, voluntarily came forward and subscribed for ten coupon bonds of the Confederate States of America, for five hundred dollars each, at par. Such noble conduct is worthy of the mothers of the old Revolution, and should be emulated by all who have the ability to make such investments.
