of Mr. Allison A. Hopkins, on Chesapeake Bay. They started across the bay last Saturday week, but had proceeded only a short distance when a squall of wind struck the sail-boat in which they were traveling and capsized it, throwing all on board into the water. They all, however, clung to the sides of the upturned boat, except an infant child, only fourteen months old, which was drowned, its parents being utterly unable to prevent that sad result. After drifting towards the shore for five hours and a half, the boat finally reached a point whence the passengers could feel terra firma. Most of them lost all of their clothing, even much of that which they had upon their persons; their trunks, carpetbags, &c., having fallen into the water when the boat capsized. After resting a few days, they again started across the bay, and this time succeeded in "running the blockade," although they passed in sight of the "Quaker City," and are now happy to find themselves safe in a Southern city.
